Description: A set of two, 3-D mixed media humanoid forms comprised of human hair, teeth and fingernails. Inspired by my insecurities with my bodily image as well as the urge to be something more.

Artist Statement

In my work, I exhume the hideous side of human nature through mixed-media abstraction, the presence is meant to confront us in such a way that makes one feel uneasy, anxious or repulsed. I construct works that summon sensations of humanoid attributes through visceral paintings and unconstrained drawings. I create an unrecognizable yet familiar manifestation of the body which bestows an unsettling impact on my audience. The works are mere stains of human anatomy and emotions that can be felt and observed. I intend for my viewer to question humanness and experience the body in a raw, abstract manner.

Bio

I was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas and currently work as a barista. While I am a MFA painting graduate from Texas Tech University, I enjoy going beyond 2D media. I look to the human body for inspiration, my work is seen as abject or unconventional to viewers. Textures play a big part in my recent work, I seek to convey a tactile intensity that introduce the human body in an abject manner. My body, physical sensations and interactions with others inspire my work.
